Tides in St Malo

For a breath of fresh air come in Spring or Autumn to admire the outstanding spectacle of the Spring Tide

Twice a day, every 6 hours the sea is transformed by a glorious force where the sun and the moon dictate this phenomenon; the beach and the rocks on this breton coastline are covered and uncovered by the huge waves. The tides occur everyday but there is something particulary special about the Emeraude Coast as they have one of the best known tidal ranges in the world.

The Bay of Saint Malo can pride itself to to have one of the greatest Spring tides in Europe, thanks to its geographical position. Spring tides are especially strong tides (they do not have anything to do with the season Spring). When the Atlantic Ocean is caught in the bottleneck of the Channel, the sea waves rush through very quickly and at an extremely great force. The tidal range is the difference between high and low tide - on average it is more than 12 metres around this Corsaire City.
